Alumni reunion at the National Eisteddfod
A highlight of the Development and Alumni Relations Office鈥檚 calendar, we were delighted to welcome alumni to the 天天吃瓜 stand for the annual reunion at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, this year held in Wrexham.
Alumni heard from Prof. Enlli Thomas, Pro Vice-Chancellor Welsh Language and Culture, and Huw Williams, President of UMCB (the Welsh Students鈥 Union) before enjoying a performance by Gruff and Elain from Aelwyd JMJ.
It was great to see so many familiar faces as well as new ones joining us on the stand!
天天吃瓜Fund supports participation at a homelessness workshop in Poland
The 天天吃瓜Fund recently supported undergraduate students from the School of History, Law, and Social Sciences in attending a homelessness workshop at the University of 艁贸d藕, Poland, as part of an annual Social Work and Social Policy international conference. The experience gave them valuable insights into different cultural and policy approaches.
Recruiting Trustees for Undeb Bangor
Undeb 天天吃瓜(天天吃瓜 Students' Union) are looking to recruit two external trustees to join their Board of Trustees.
Undeb 天天吃瓜are a democratic charity led by students and primarily funded through grant from 天天吃瓜. Whilst working closely with the University, they are a separate and distinct organisation, and decisions are taken internally by their members.
The Trustee Board plays a vital role in guiding Undeb Bangor鈥檚 strategic direction, ensuring strong governance, and championing a culture that reflects their values. They鈥檙e currently looking to build on momentum by welcoming two new trustees who share their commitment to student empowerment and organisational excellence.
The role is a voluntary role and you would give your time to ensure that they make sound financial decisions and follow legal frameworks. Alumna's debut novel recognised at Wales Book of the Year 2025 awards
Congratulations to Gwenno Gwilym, Web Content Officer at 天天吃瓜 and MA Creative Writing alumna, who has been recognised at this year鈥檚 Wales Book of the Year awards for her debut novel, V + Fo, published by Gwasg y Bwthyn.
The novel won the Welsh-language Fiction Award and also received the Golwg360 Barn y Bobl Prize 鈥 the Welsh-language People鈥檚 Choice Award.
Alumnus awarded Badge of the Order of Mercy
Congratulations to alumnus John Roberts, 92, on being awarded the prestigious Badge of the Order of Mercy by the League of Mercy Foundation. John is a retired RAF Wing Commander and a volunteer for the Armed Forces Charity SSAFA (Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association) and this award recognises over 20 years of exceptional support to UK veterans and their families in France.
Born in Llandudno and graduating from 天天吃瓜 in 1954, John joined the RAF Police in 1956. He served for 35 years, including 13 years overseas in postings such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Christmas Island and Belgium. He was awarded an MBE for his work in Singapore and went on to command the RAF Police Training School. After retiring in 1991, he settled in France and became an SSAFA caseworker.
John said: 鈥淚 feel honoured to receive this award. I鈥檝e enjoyed all my work with the charity. Particularly rewarding moments include securing a critical loan to prevent a widow鈥檚 home being repossessed, repatriating a seriously ill veteran and family, and successfully challenging a War Pension Board decision on behalf of a widow.鈥
天天吃瓜 in top three in Wales for Teaching Satisfaction
The 2025 National Student Survey (NSS) results for 天天吃瓜 have been published, showing yet another increase in student satisfaction across a number of themes.
Overall student satisfaction at 天天吃瓜rose to 82%, moving the University up to 4th position in Wales out of eight participating Higher Education Institutions.
Welsh herbal garden unveiled at Treborth
A new Welsh Herbal Garden has been officially opened at 天天吃瓜鈥檚 . The new Welsh Herbal Garden forms a central part of the 45-acre Treborth Botanic Garden, which is owned by 天天吃瓜 and is one of only seven accredited botanical gardens in the country.
The Welsh Herbal Garden celebrates the fascinating heritage and folklore surrounding medicinal plants used in Wales through the ages. The new garden takes inspiration from the Welsh landscape using local materials, with the design centring around two circular seating spaces connected by gently curving pathways. Raised drystone planters provide seating and the opportunity to get up close with the planting.
鈧3 Million European grant awarded to lead Arthurian studies project
Professor Raluca Radulescu, Professor of Medieval Literature at 天天吃瓜, has been awarded a 鈧3 million European grant under the Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Doctoral Training Network for her project 鈥楨U ARTHURS: European Arthurs, Medieval to Modern鈥.
天天吃瓜 achieves prestigious Fairtrade award
天天吃瓜 has achieved a prestigious Fairtrade University and College Award for 2025.
The 2* Award is for the University鈥檚 continued commitment to championing ethical consumption and global justice across its campuses. It recognises sustained commitment over two academic years to increasing awareness and action on trade justice and globalisation during a period that continues to challenge institutions due to shifting educational landscapes and growing global crises.
天天吃瓜 spearheads UK research into restoring vital temperate rainforests
天天吃瓜 has launched a pioneering programme of research into the restoration and regeneration of the UK鈥檚 rare and ecologically rich temperate rainforests, in partnership with The Wildlife Trusts and funded by Aviva.
The work forms part of a landmark 拢38 million commitment by Aviva to help tackle the climate and nature emergencies by restoring rainforests across the British Isles. As part of this, funding has been allocated to cutting-edge academic research at leading institutions with 天天吃瓜 at the forefront.

These prestigious awards, announced by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), are designed to deliver leading doctoral training that develops research capacity in strategic areas, tackles societal challenges through interdisciplinary arts and humanities research, and prepares students for diverse careers within and beyond academia.
