Overview

The module will consist of a complementary blend of physiologically orientated practical sessions, theoretically driven workshops and accompanying seminars. The module is designed to integrate these complementary teaching approaches so that physiological theory can be mapped on to accompanying practice and so that optimal ways to interpret, package, and communicate practical data can be susequently considered.

The module will focus on specific physiological techniques and, as an indicative list, topics may include themes such as online gas analysis, critical power, economy of movement, and MAOD, amongst others.

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -Pass: A basic grasp of theoretical knowledge with several gaps in understanding also evident. Preparation and application of pratical skills may be sufficient in some instances by may lack some attanetion to detail in others. While interpretation and communication of practical information may be good in some aspects, it may also lack quality and/or detail in other aspects. -good -Merit: Criteria will be met to a good - very good standard with students demonstrating good - very good preparation and administration of practical procedures, mostly understandable intepretation and communication of accompanying practical information for the target population, and a good-very good literature-based, theoretically-driven comprehension of the physiological processes behind certain practical tests There will however also be occasional gaps in theoretical knowledge, demonstration of practical skillsets, and the ability to interpret and communicate information effectively. -excellent -Distinction: Criteria will be met to an excellent standard with students demonstrating excellent preparation and administration of practical procedures, clear and understandable intepretation and communication of accompanying practical information for the target population, and a throrough literature-based and theoretically-driven comprehension of the physiological processes behind certain practical tests.

Learning Outcomes

• Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to communicate the meaning of complex practical information clearly in a way that is understandable to specific target populations

• Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to competently administer physiological testing in a way that is safe and effective for sport and exercise-based populations

• Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of the physiological theory that accompanies the use of specific practical tests in a sport and exercise setting

• Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to interpret complex practical information in a way that is understandable to specific target populations

• Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to safely and effectively organise and prepare the practical environment ahead of administering physiological testing
